Build, Bail and Sail Boat Race - Rules

1. Teams will consist of 2 persons, minimum age 15 years.

1.a. Mens and Ladies divisions (ladies division entrants must have 2 women)

2. Building materials to a retail value of $75 (ex. tax.) provided by Loma Lumber (tools may not be included in your material list).

3. Metal roofing and metal flashing may not be used.

4. Building materials cannot be in lengths longer than 10 feet ("poly" film excluded)

5. Teams must supply their own tools. Cordless power tools acceptable.

6. Teams must equip themselves with a bailing bucket.

7. Selected materials will be delivered to construction site at Nakusp beach by 9am.

8. Boat building begins at 9am - 12.30pm. Contestants must carry boats to the starting point. Race begins at 1pm.

9. Race will consist of heats, determined by number of entries. Winner(s) of heats will go into final race.

10. Boats must be propelled by both team members who must change position in the boat at the mid point.

11. Contestants must supply and wear Canadian coast guard approved life jacket.

12. After the race teams may either:

  • Take their boat with them, OR
  • Place on Loma Lumber & Hardware Ltd truck for transport to the store. Boats may be picked up until the following Saturday. After this time they will be disposed of.

12. Contestants are required to sign a waiver of liability and to pay a refundable deposit of $25 per person. Deposit will be refunded upon completion of event.

13. Materials list should be supplied by the Friday of the preceding week, (July 22th). After this time, out of stock items cannot be guaranteed.
